The high waisted jeans

Whether it is fashion icons like Avril Lavigne or Selena Gomez, or alarmed fashionistas like you and me, high waist jeans have become a part of every girl’s closet. They are seen being sported in every fashion shows and magazines. And that’s not it- they are stylishly glamorous and look great on everyone! The high waist favor every figure type - be it hourglass or pear shaped and lends the wearer a slim silhouette while camouflaging the builder’s bums and other body flaws. Fortunately, the rage of these jeans is expected to stay for one more spring, so it is recommended that you better try out every design before it goes off trend.

In a fashion time marked by the low-rise and skinny jeans, it is a relief to have something else to wear other than these trends that do not necessarily compliment every body type. Flared, bell bottoms, and wide leg jeans are now making a comeback. Include in this list the high waisted jeans and it’s the seventies all over again – in a good way.

High waist – or high rise – jeans are characterized by a waist line that goes way past your bellybutton. They were generally introduced to use for work but fashion has evolved since and wearing these jeans now means making a statement. When worn correctly, wide waisted jeans can elongate your frame and make you look more slender. Also this style embraces your body and flaunts your unique body style. You can choose from either a skinny leg or the wide leg ones. Invest in a pair that has a wider leg for the jeans to appear more flattering to your body.

1. Finding the right fit

High waisted denim should hit at the natural waistline or slightly above,” To find your natural waistline, take a piece of string or elastic and wrap it around your apparent waist. Bend slightly at the waist– front to back and side to side– the string will fall into your natural waistline. Be aware, however, that your true waistline may not be perfectly straight across your torso.

2. Picking the right cut

Any woman with any body type can wear the high waist jean trend, but Taverniti suggests a
straight leg over a wide or flared leg. While wide leg, high waisted jeans are a fun throw back, the cut can overwhelm your frame. However, you can still feel a little retro with inspired accessories like this necktie blouse and brown wedges.

3. Styling high waisted jeans

With breezy tops all the rage this spring/summer season, Taverniti suggests styling your jeans “with a drapey cropped t-shirt and heels.” The combination of shorter shirts and high waisted jeans already adds length to your legs, and pairing the look with heels will only further highlight your height! If you’re not sold on the crop top pairing, try tucking a baggy shirt into the front of the jeans to show off the high waisted cut.
