Glam Camouflage: the Not-So-Invisible Trend

With Spring well within our grasp and the yearly print trend set to make an emergence, the time has come to address that tetchy issue; that is the camouflage debate. Camouflage print has a lot of well-earned stigma attached, with military overkill and three-quarter length cargo shorts carrying much of the blame. This season, camouflage is set to make a massive comeback becoming one of the most coveted looks of the summer. Of course, it’s not what you wear but the way you wear it. Follow these tips to make sure you stay camouflage cool.
What I'm wearing:

When you think of camo, you normally picture heavy duty, “manly” apparel. However, spring 2012’s runways were filled with colorful camo patterns that looked – dare I say it – actually ladylike!
The trick to pulling off this trend is to look for camo prints in soft, pastel colors, such as blue or pink. Don’t be afraid to mix it up though by combining your camo with other complimentary colors and prints you already own. This is one look that definitely won’t allow you to hide – it’s for women who want to make a statement.

The use of camo clothing as fashion rather than strategy has grown to the point of giving it its own name. Urban Dictionary lists the word glamoflage in its word bank. It means "a piece of clothing, the coat of a car etc. colored with a camouflage pattern, but with colors that stand out rather than help blend in

In all honesty, it feels as though a wave of camo completely took over Pitti Uomo this season, just in time for the industry’s major patterns and prints crave for Spring/Summer 2012 and surprisingly for Fall/Winter 2012. A plethora of camo has been spilling down runways from Tommy Hilfiger and on the collections of the likes of Comme Des Garçons.

Tote your everyday essentials with ease in this Michael Kors camouflage-patterned satchel with leather handles and a cut-out logo medallion on one side (Nordstrom, $348).We love the ample size (perfect for a day braving the urban jungle) and the fact this stylish satchel offers an easy way to incorporate camo into any outfit.

Multicolored Camo Dresses

Tommy Hilfiger

Army patterned trend has been a big hit from its start, but now we needed a change in that old grey and white or green patterns,we needed to make it colorful. So here we have a fashion trend you can’t resist. These multicolored camo dresses are way much softer and comfortable with eye-pleasing colors.

2012 Rules to wear the Camo trend:

1.Pair with neutrals:
The worst way to wear camouflage is to wear too much. The off-duty squaddie look is definitely one to be avoided. If you opt for camouflage trousers, stick to a neutral t-shirt for a casual look. Pair a camouflage shirt with faded D&G jeans for a casual/chic look.

2.Try a tailored fit:
Camouflage trousers can also be dressed in a tailored manner. Look for a tapered and well-fitting pair to ensure they are in keeping with the slim lines that the rest of your outfit creates.

3.Pretty in pink:
Opt for a pink shirt to pair with your camouflage trousers. This will create a masculine and feminine clash that looks fantastic with a navy blazer.

4.Shoes:
Black, tan and brown all work well with a camouflage print. Military boots and loafers are a good look; however trainers must be avoided at all costs.

5.Accessorise:
If you don’t feel bold enough to adopt camouflage into your wardrobe, a great way to incorporate it into your look is though accessories. Create a military/preppy look with a camouflage bow tie, or try other neckwear such as a scarf to add some individuality.

6.Jackets:
Camouflage Barbour jackets are going to fly off the rails this season. These jackets have casual camo down to a T and are a perfect way to finish off any outfit.

It’s as simple as that. Take the military plunge this summer and be a leader in what is set to be a huge trend of 2012.
