Green with envy

I know for a fact that many of us stray away from the varying shades of emerald in our fashion
choices – perhaps in fear we’ll resemble an all-year-round leprechaun.

In this sense, green clothing in my mind immediately connotates childish, and although fun, dare I say, even a little tacky. But this really is quite a silly thought, because of recent times, the most elegant awards night gowns I have seen have been in the most beautiful shades of green.

What I'm wearing:
Fedora hat and Earrings: Six, Black Top and Leopard skirt: H&M Divided, Green Cardigan: H&M Basic, Shoes: Xtra- Star, Tights: H&M, Bracelet and Ring: Temptation Boutique

I’m here to prove that if you have a look around, there are ways you can this somewhat tricky colour into your wardrobe, whether that be a sequin shift or simply a fluro-green belt. To help you along your way, I’ve devised some shades into three complexion colours: light, medium and dark. Although this is nowhere near representative of the wide variations of skin tones we have in the world, it’s certainly a place to start.

Dark complexion - Style Muse: Zoe Saldana

If you have darker skin, green really is your colour – any shade can work. Take this to your advantage and opt for brighter shades; think lime and apple.
  1. Diane von Furstenberg Mara asymmetric sequinned silk top - $370
  2. Willow Draped silk-tulle skirt - $790
  3. ME & KASHMERE cashmere scarf - $130
  4. BAILEY 44 Green Neptune Cocktail Top - $135
  5. Ak Anne Klein Ladies’ Lime Green Leather Watch - $53
  6. ASOS Patent Fluro Skinny Belt - $9.73
  7. Bayswater Grass Green Glossy Goat - $1195

Medium complexion – Style Muse: Angelina Jolie

Those with medium/olive skin should look for shades of green that have a hint of blue – especially those with dark hair. Colours that work particularly well for this skin tone are teal and mint.
  1. Marla’s Green Crystal Triple Flower Gold Bangle - $22
  2. ASOS Pant with Elastic Cuff - $61.64
  3. Ten Thousand Things Chrysoprase Waterfall Necklace 18 Karat Gold - $151
  4. Zara Lined Wedge - $67
  5. Dorothy Perkins green spot cowl neck top - $37
  6. Matthew Williamson Rainbow Lace Long Sleeve Dress - $2555
  7. Zara Mini Party Messenger Bag - $48

Light complexion – Style Muse: Emma Stone

If you have pale skin, it’s best to stay away from light or lime shades of green as you run the risk of looking washed out. Instead look for dark, rich emeralds and forest greens to complement your light skin tone.
  1. Diane von Furstenberg Kimian Top - $160
  2. Jil Sander Liquirizia pleated stretch - $840
  3. Malene Birger Nuggaz Dress - $835
  4. ASOS Pepper Mary Jane Platform Court Shoe with Peep Toe - $43
  5. Amrita Singh East Lake Earrings - $95
  6. ASOS Minimal Coat with Gold Buttons - $85
  7. Amrita Singh Napeague Ring - $95
With all the exciting colors I'm seeing everywhere, I'm inspired by the color green in all shades.  My love of this color goes way back to my cross colors days.  My fashion choices have certainly matured but my love of green remains.
