Trend Spotter: Knee High socks
Thoughts of knee high socks could transport you right back to grade school, but don’t get scared! They are not just for kids any more. Knee highs are not only back in fashion, they are cute and colorful too!
Knee High socks are coming up in the trend outlooks and are listed right up there with tights and leggings for this Spring.
What I'm wearing:
Bag: Coolcat, White Dress: H&M, Knee High socks: New Look, From Temptation Boutique: the Jacket: Luii, the shoes: Rasolli, the belt and the accessories
When we were in school, white, grey and maybe argyle with some splashes of color were popular and accepted. Today we have a whole range of colors that you can have some fun with.
In almost all fashion trend posts were discussed what shoes were on trend for the spring. This time around, we’re not only looking at what type of shoes are hot for spring, but also how to wear them!
I agree (and I think all of you agree) that not too long ago, pairing our favorite Mary Janes with pink neon socks would have surely landed you in the “What Was She Thinking?” category of regrettable decisions. However, it’s hard not to wonder if one could truly pull this off, given the right shoe and sock combination. Plus, it’s a great way to wear your warm weather shoes throughout the cooler months.
First and foremost, the height of the sock matters. This is one of the most important pieces of the look. If you’re going to wear heels, make sure your socks are appropriate to your shoe choice. From socks that hit just above the ankle, to knee high socks and thigh highs, the height variations are endless. When considering a printed sock, it’s best to go with an ankle or just above height sock to avoid looking to busy. Solid colors look good at any height, but it’s best to avoid mid-calf socks entirely.
Here a few tips to make sure you don’t end up in the Hall of Fame for Bad Fashion:
- Don’t mix printed heels with printed socks
- Steer clear of shoes with a lot of embellishment, as these tend to take away from the look.
- Also, avoid looking tacky by wearing a maximum three-color combination. This doesn’t include neutrals like black, white and gray.
One of the easiest ways to pull off this trend is to wear a simple t-strap or mary jane heel in black or gray. The key is to create a break in the sock color or print with the shoe’s upper. This is best accomplished with heels that feature something around the ankle and a flattering piece over the toe. To get that trendy pop of color, choose a bright, solid color or printed sock.
You can also choose to keep it simple yet super chic by wearing neutral cage platforms with black socks. A solid color ankle boot and sock combination is also on trend. Sporting your favorite pair of boots with knee high socks also works perfectly as we come out of winter into the ever present spring rain.
Some popular combinations include white ankle or knee high socks with black mary janes (the classic school girl look), bright colored ankle socks with black and some sort of neon upper peep toes (for color blocking), or for the more boho look, a natural toned chunky platform in popular materials like suede and leather, mixed with a bold printed ankle sock. Above all, have fun with it!
Have you tried the sock and heel look?
