Spring 2012 Trend – Tulle

For some of us, the first time we put it on was at a very early age and there are others who have yet to don this billowy, ethereal look. I'm talking about ballerina tulle, and whether you know how to land a pirouette or not, you might want to consider (or reconsider, if you were a wee ballerina in the making) this wispy fabric for Spring.
What I'm wearing:
Dress: H&M, Shoes: Wild Diva, Tights: Primark, Earrings: Xtra-Star, Rings: H&M, Bangle:Temptation Boutique, Jacket: Temptation Boutique

It was one of the hottest trends on the runways and it will add a fresh, feminine feel to any ensemble. If you love the way it drapes and falls, look for some super cute dresses in bright or blush colors or the classic black.

If a tulle dress is just tulle  much, why not try a tank or a skirt with some light tulle detailing? Now, if only we could keep our buns from falling out! Ready? And a one and a two…

More outfits ideas:

These pieces are all quite stunning, but not very high on the practicality scale. Yes the detailing is incredible and you can be sure each item makes its own statement, but why not incorporate the same vibe in a day-to-day, more real-way less runway way by checking out my picks below.

  • 1. Tangerine tulle dress $45.00 (down from $50.00) from YOOX
  • 2. Two-tone ballerina dress $119.99 from Modcloth

Accessorize these dresses with a well-structured, shrunken blazer and tights, or, if you’re feeling bold, go for a pair of combat boots and an armful of bracelets; they’ll give these sweet silhouettes an edgier vibe.

  • 1. Multi-layered tulle skirt $74.00 from American Apparel
  • 2. Tulle ballet skirt $69.95 from the Gap

Ah, yes. The tulle skirt. Also worn in actual ballets, where you’ll see the dancers usually in either a short tutu or a long, flowing skirt. My favorite item to pair with these two tulle options? A simple, classic T-shirt. Tuck it in, belt it, top it off with a marvy statement necklace, et voila!
  • 1. Tank with tulle detailing $98.00 from Nordstrom
  • 2. Lemon tulle blouse $53.72 from Asos
  • 3. Top with tulle (worn with matching skirt) $26.99 Jason Wu for Target from Target

The most important thing to remember when you’re wearing a tulle top is that you must layer appropriately! Since tulle is almost always sheer, you have got to wear a camisole or tank underneath if the top itself doesn’t have another layer built in. No one wants to see your bra through your shirt. That is, without a doubt, a BIG no-no.
So no matter what your style: classic and conservative, flirty and feminine or bold ballerina, there are plenty of options for rocking this year’s tulle trend. Or should I say gracefully gliding across the room, toes pointed of course.
